Vocations backer goes for Facebook, Catholic Sentinel -- Serra Club of Portland, which promotes and supports vocations to priesthood and religious life, is now on Facebook. The idea is to reach a younger generation that uses digital social media. But studies show that the fastest-growing group of Facebook users are those over 50.

Sisters Bring Fresh Faces to College Seminary, Spirit Citings Blog -- For decades Divine Word College in Epworth, Iowa has prepared young men for global service as Divine Word Missionary priests and brothers. This month Sister Ana Julita Bele Bau, a 39-year-old member of the Holy Spirit Missionary Sisters (the women’s community cofounded by the Saint Arnold Janssens, who established the Divine Word Missionaries), will become the first female graduate since the school refocused its mission to include new coeducational and lay formation opportunities.

Youth explore vocations at St. Cecilia event, Catholic Sentinel -- BEAVERTON — St. Cecilia Church here hosts a vocation night Sunday, Jan. 9, for members of the middle and high school youth ministry groups.


New approach to vocations recruitment, Independent Catholic News -- This September saw the numbers entering English seminaries to become Catholic priests at their highest level in a decade. 56 men began the journey towards priesthood this year. At their annual conference held last week at Oscott seminary in Birmingham, the diocesan Vocations Directors of England and Wales discussed the approaches to vocations work that have contributed to this increase.


Msgr. Edward Rice named Auxiliary Bishop of St. Louis, St. Louis Review-- Hanging on the wall of Bishop-designate Edward M. Rice’s office is a framed image of the Sacred Heart. It was a gift given to his parents, John and Helen, when they married in 1952. After both of his parents passed away, his older sister Mary Ann had it reframed and gave it to him.

“It takes me back to my parents,” Bishop-designate Rice said in an interview with the Review earlier this week. “The love of the heart of Christ has inspired me as a priest and will do so as a bishop.”
